Choose Obedience Over Outcome

Choose Obedience Over Outcome

Let me be honest. Thriving Royalty was doing great at the start of 2024. The first couple of months were filled with energy, excitement, and anticipation for what was to come. I was posting consistently, engaging with my audience, and laying down the groundwork for what I envisioned to be an impactful brand. But soon, things began to shift. My numbers and analytics were not growing. Engagement was minimal to none, and I couldn’t help but feel like no one was really interested in what I had to say. It was disheartening. I had put so much time, effort, and heart into this, but it seemed like it wasn’t getting anywhere.

I took a few classes, hired some experts to help guide me, but nothing seemed to move the needle. The more I tried, the more I felt stuck. I became overwhelmed by the mounting pressure to see immediate results. Alongside the challenges of growing a business, I was facing personal struggles—doctor visits that brought unwelcoming news was an emotional burden that weighed heavily on me. I was trying to hold on to my faith, believing that if I just prayed enough, trusted enough, and pushed through, things would work out. But with every setback, I felt a little more distant from the success I had hoped for.

One day, the weight of everything—business struggles, health issues, and emotional turmoil—became too much. I quit. I told myself I was just taking a break, but that break stretched into nearly eight months of nothing. I had stopped doing anything at all. My thoughts became consumed with doubts, fears, and regrets. I focused on what wasn’t working, on the disappointments, on the things that were beyond my control. And slowly, I let it all take over.

During my break, as time passed, something began to shift in me. The assignment of Thriving Royalty, that vision and purpose, was still in the back of my mind. It didn’t leave me. Even in my moments of doubt, I could feel a tug, calling me back to my purpose. And in that moment, I realized that I couldn’t allow life’s distractions to take me off course any longer. I couldn’t let the disappointments and setbacks keep me from working toward what God had put on my heart. It wasn’t just about the business; it was about my obedience to God’s calling on my life. I was reminded of the story of Jonah. God had called him to go to the city of Nineveh and preach, but Jonah, feeling that the people didn’t deserve God’s mercy, ran away in disobedience. He feared the outcome and didn’t want to follow through with what God had called him to do. In many ways, my decision to quit was a reflection of that same fear and resistance to God's plan. I was running away from the hard thing He had asked me to do because the outcome wasn’t what I expected. But in the end, I came to understand that my responsibility is not to control the outcome—it’s to obey God, no matter how difficult or uncertain the journey may seem.

Obedience is my responsibility, not the outcome.

This realization was powerful for me. The weight of success, or perceived failure, had been clouding my perspective. I had been so fixated on results that I forgot that my role is to simply be obedient to what God has called me to do. The outcome is not mine to control. It is God's. I am called to trust, to be faithful, and to follow His direction, without getting lost in the numbers or the immediate results.

Scripture reminds us of this truth. In 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, Paul says, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." My part in this journey is to plant and water—through my efforts, my obedience, and my faithfulness. But the growth, the increase, the fruit of it all—belongs to God alone.

Similarly, in Proverbs 3:5-6, we are reminded, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." This is a promise that no matter how uncertain the path may seem, if I stay obedient and trust God, He will lead me where I need to go. The outcome is in His hands, not mine.

Even in the midst of trials and struggles, I am reminded that God calls me to be faithful, not perfect. James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him." The reward is not necessarily in the form of worldly success but in the promise of God’s faithfulness to His obedient servants.

Obedience requires us to take the next step, even when we can’t see the whole picture. It means continuing the work, even when the results aren’t immediate or obvious. I am learning to shift my focus from what I can't see and control to the faithfulness of God. I am learning that my obedience, my consistency, and my faithfulness are what matter most. God will take care of the rest.

So, as I return to Thriving Royalty, I know that I am stepping into my purpose once again. I am reminded that my responsibility is to be obedient—to show up, do the work, and trust God with the outcome. I don’t need to focus on what I cannot control or measure; I need to keep my eyes on Him and trust that, in His timing, He will make everything beautiful. The success, the growth, and the impact will come in His way and in His time. My job is simply to obey, and that is enough.

In the end, obedience is not just about doing things right—it’s about doing things in faith, trusting that the results will come according to God’s will. And when we trust Him with the outcome, we can have peace in knowing that He is faithful, no matter what the results may look like.

Remember, obedience is your responsibility; the outcome is God's. Keep pressing forward in obedience and in faith.

In the end, the journey of obedience is not about understanding every detail or controlling the outcome. It’s about surrendering to God’s will and trusting that He has a plan, even when things don’t go as we expect. Life is full of distractions, disappointments, and uncertainties, but we are called to remain faithful and obedient to what God has placed before us. When we surrender our fears, doubts, and need for control, we open ourselves to God’s greater purpose. He may not always lead us down the easiest path, but He will guide us with love, wisdom, and purpose. So, I encourage you, as I encourage myself, to trust in God’s calling on your life, no matter how challenging it may seem. Obey His direction with faith, knowing that the outcome is in His hands. Keep moving forward, one step at a time, and let your obedience be a reflection of your trust in Him. God’s plan is always greater than what we can see, and He will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

I so much enjoyed this blog! I am reminded that it’s my job to obey and not try to control the outcome. So in reading this I am encouraged to get back to the drawing board and fulfill my purpose.
